Fabulous Tulips, Portraits, and Painters at Roozengaarde at the Mount Vernon Tulip Festival

Do you like seeing beautiful rows of multi-colored tulips that stretch for miles? Then, grab the kids, your phone and a camera and explore the gorgeous flower gardens at Roozengaarde in Mount Vernon, Washington. Spring sprung early this year, 2024, and the tulips are huge and so colorful! When I was there this week with photographer friends from the Kitsap Photography Guild, we entered the gardens at 10 am and spent two hours roaming around the tulip fields. Photos tips for the New Year - Capturing Light and Using Lightroom

Light is essential to photography and if you have a photography studio, like I do to control the light you can create some amazing pictures. But, what if you’re outside and the weather is not cooperating. You can wait for the light, come back another day, or experiment with the light and use tools in Lightroom that may give you some really pleasing results.

Some tips: Shoot in RAW and use manual mode for purest image quality and to control the aperture and shutter speed. To avoid camera shake use a tripod. In studio I use a tripod and for very low light and longer light exposures I use a tripod. Experiment with the levels in Lightroom for clarity, texture, tone, shadow, contrast, and saturation.

BIG Congratulations to Spencer Rutledge, Senior, and a Member of the Graduating Class of 2021!

Had a lot of fun meeting and photographing Spencer for his senior photos this week. Spencer is looking forward to graduation in June 2021, and is interested in pursuing, possibly, a career in film and movie production. He’s a big fan of Science Fiction movies, Marvel, and the Black Panther films. Towards the end of our photo session together he surprised me with a light wand and his super cool black cape, which helped him get into character, like in the movies.
