Big Circle France 2026 Trip, stops in Reim and Last stop Paris, by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio

Rich and I took at trip to France, April 27 - May 27. We flew to Paris from Seattle and rented a car from Charles de Gaulle. Our first stop was the fishing Viking village Honfleur for two days, then we drove to Normandy beaches to see Omaha and Utah Beach, the American Cemetery Normandy, the Utah Beach Museum, and then stayed in Roche Torin close to Mont. Saint. Michele three nights seeing the abbey on the island across the water and landscape from our hotel where we admired the medieval Abbey and local farm sheep grazing and sleeping in the bucolic fields. We then drove to the Loire Valley staying at Auberge de la Caillere to visit chateaus: Blois, Chambord, Chenonceau, and Ambroise where Leonardo Di Vinci’s tomb lays in the church. Next stop, and our longest drive, to the Basque region of France, staying at the lovely seaside Saint-Jean-De-Luz and enjoyed fours days at Hotel Plage soaking up the sun, admiring the Pyrenees mountains, exploring half-timber house villages, and we took a a bus/train day trip to San Sebastian, Spain for a authentic tapas and pinxtos crawl. Next stop for two days staying at Mercure Carcassonne La Cité hotel, the medieval town of Carcassonne to see the castle and eat cassoulet. Delicious! Our next stop for five days, Boulbon, France, near the Rhone River in Provence. We loved the maison we stayed in Hotel Bastide, loved the village, danced to disco music with a local chef, and explored wonderful towns: Arles, Nimes, Les Baux-de-Provence, Gordes, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Aux-En-Provence, and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Not enough time to see every town - another trip perhaps. From Boulbon, we drove to Lyon where we enjoyed three days staying at Le Phoenix eating to our hearts content at Les Halles de Lyon - Paul Bocuse, a bouchon, and more. For wine, oh yes, Rhone, Loire, and did I mention Burgundy - Oui! We stayed in the lovely grape growing village, Aloxe Corton - a piece of heaven, at Villa Louise explored, shopped and dined in Beaune - it was lovely! We toured the interesting historic Hôtel-Dieu Museum - Hospices de Beaune - a must see in Beaune. Two days is not enough time in Burgundy. We shall return to visit more villages and Dijon in the future. The last leg of our trip we spent two nights in the Champagne region, Reims, where we enjoyed seeing the gothic Reims Cathedral and sampling different champagnes, after two days we drove back to Charles de Gaulle Airport, dropped off the car, and took at taxi to Paris where were spent three HOT days (temps hovering 94 degrees in May), between the 4th and 11th Arrondissement’s. We rode the Paris Metro to see Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, Moulin Rouge area, the Eiffell Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris, The Galeries Lafayette Dome, a sunset river cruise on the Seine River, and shop and eat in the Paris Marais district and Jewish quarter. FYI - if you want to eat well, visit Michelin Guide France to review restaurants in various languages and book reservations. BTW, Rich and I were also our own travel agent. We did all the research. Spent time on Goggle Maps exploring hotels, locations, and restaurants. This is one of eight blog posts about our France trip. Lots of beautiful, interesting, and fun photos to see. It's Tulip Festival Time in the Skagit Valley, Mount Vernon, Washington by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio!

Western Washington, is very similar to the tulip fields in Holland in the Spring. In the Skagit Valley you can see tulip fields for miles around the surrounding farms, foothills of the Cascade Mountains, and on a clear day you might see Mount Baker in the background. One of the best places to go and enjoy the tulips is at Roozengaard Tulip Farm in Mount Vernon. The tulips in the Skagit Valley are planted in intervals and you can count on seeing the blooms and their vibrant colors starting in late March through April and maybe some in May. Lake Quinault and the Olympic National Rainforest, December 2025

Listen to the rain…the rain stops and then starts again. Moments of clearing, fog gently lifts from the Lake Quinault and rises and laces around the vast evergreen forest of the Olympic foothills canopy. Nature’s gifts surrounds us. Large yellow and brown maple leaves, lush green mossy ground, lichen hangs high and low from the evergreens and deciduous trees, birds fly and hop about, and listen to the rushing flow of water as it runs down the Olympic mountainsides filling creeks and some emptying into Lake Quinault. Stay dry and sit a spell inside the historic cozy Lake Quinault Lodge, built in 1926, and visited by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, FDR, in 1937. Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, celebration at Santa Fe, New Mexico by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio

I’ve dreamed of photographing a Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, celebration of life and lives lost for many years. This year, on October 31-November 2, I spent time in Santa Fe, New Mexico in awe of the beautiful and touching celebration complete with offerings, ofrendas, tributes to loved ones lost, beautiful and creative sugar skull and skeleton costumes, local tribal indigenous peoples blessings, and moments where I too was touched by the understanding and meaning of loss. We’ve all lost someone. This beautiful celebration is my first and will not be my last. Proudly, my work as a photojournalist and photographer is so humbled by what we witnessed in Santa Fe. Oh Those Summer Days! Yes too Girlfriends, Roses, Cocktails and the Smith Tower -- All Fabulous!! Photos by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio

What can happen when five girlfriend’s get together on a sunny summer day in July in Seattle…a lot! They enjoyed two Uber car rides, and both just a little bit of a tight squeeze, as they ripped through the city towards acres of roses. The Woodland Park Rose Garden plants 200 varieties of roses and other flora — all blooming bright and beautiful. It was a zen afternoon for the ladies to enjoy nature and each others company. After the park visit, a lite lunch with shaken and stirred cocktails was sipped at Seattle’s historic Smith Tower observatory building, circa 1914. Also, the gals took in the sweeping views of the city and surrounding land from the observation deck; Elliott Bay on display as well as the majestic Mount Rainier. All and all a grand day was enjoyed by all in the Emerald City of Seattle. Let’s plan another getaway soon! Photos by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio, Bremerton, Washington.

Salish Sea Delivers T99 Orcas Killer Whales, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, and Sea Birds by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio

Happy Summer 2025! We enjoyed a boat trip with friends sailing from Anacortes, Washington on the Salish Sea and the Strait of Juan de Fuca passing Whidbey Island, and several of the San Juan Islands in search of marine wildlife. Two days of exploring the beautiful open waters granted us many wildlife sighting gifts. We saw sea lions and harbor seals, the T99 pod of Orca’s killer whales, lots of seabirds: Cormorants, gulls, and an oyster catcher with an orange beak and orange eyes, and American Bald Eagles. Seeing wildlife in its natural habitat is pure joy that we appreciate and do not take for granted. Photos by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio, East Bremerton, Washington.

The West Roadtrip with Friends, Oregon Outback Scenic Byway, Eastern Sierras, and Superstitious Mountains by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio

Spring 2025 will be a lasting memory. I helped a friend drive her car from Washington State to Arizona. Along the way, we had overnight stops in Bend, OR., and Reno, NV., stayed a couple of days in Bishop CA., to visit friends, an overnight in very hot (107 degrees) Needles, CA., and lastly destination, Apache Junction, Arizona. I drove over 1,400 miles, and we saw dramatic and beautiful countryside with lakes, streams, the high country, the high desert, Cascade Mountains, Cascade Volcanic Arc, the Eastern Sierra Mountains, and the hot Mojave Desert and the Sonoran Deserts. We stopped along the route to take photos, stretching our legs, and during the drive had meaningful conversations. Here are some photo highlights of the trip. Sailing Through the Panama Canal by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio

Did you know it takes nearly a day to pass through the Panama Canal with it’s three locks and Gatun Lake? Last March 2025, Rich and I with about 1,000 passengers including crew members sailed on the Holland America Zaandam ship entering the area and waiting our turn at about 6 am on the Atlantic Ocean and finishing on the Pacific Ocean after 7 pm. For us, it was an unforgettable journey to see and experience this master engineering feet. Below are photos of our day.

Antigua Guatemala Photojournalism by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio

Oh my heart! Visiting Antigua, Guatemala was a dream to come. It was our favorite country stop during our 15-day Central America and Panama Canal cruise, March 2025. The ancient Spanish colonial old town of Antigua is rich with culture, history, old world charm and photojournalist opportunities. The people, the colors, beautiful handmade tapestries, cobblestone stone streets, cathedrals and public squares are enchanting. And, the views of the active volcano Volcán de Fuego, Volcano of Fire, is seen from the town. I will visit Guatemala again. We barely scratched the surface - but this trip gave us a beautiful taste of what there is there. I love it so much! Photos by Jolly Sienda Photography and Studio.
